I liked the trailer for the Republic trooppers.
Gameplay was a bit of a let down but again, it's very early beta phase one.. Hopefully there's some distinction between this game and other MMO's combat wise at least.
I'd like to see the locked-down combat system like on KOTOR, no jumping around or such. One can always run from the fight but costs few hits to the back.

Hmm, I actually prefer combat where you can "jump around" myself but...
As you said, the game is still in beta, so hopefully the distinction will grow clearer as time moves on. Then again, I feel that there is so much more to this than just combat, that as long as it is enjoyable, the combat system dun need no revolution imo.
Besides, fights with lightsabers and force powers is always funnier, no matter the combat system =D

Not wanting the bust balls but, i'm pretty sure the combat you all saw is what your going to get. Standard cooldown MMO style. The only game trying to somewhat change this is Tera online which is hack & Slash mecanics.

The only game trying to somewhat change this is Tera online which is hack & Slash mecanics. There are different stand cooldown mmo styles. Usually it's either the locked style, where you don't have to move your character at all, instead you mash out skills and hope you used your combination of skills better than your opponent, or it's the more freeform style, like in wow, where running around like some crazy chickenfucker actually is necessary in PvP, as well as mashing skills.
This seems to be more like the latter one, but also involves the use off terrain and obstacles (e.g the smuggler hiding behind objects) etc, so I think it looks pretty interesting and refreshing.

I dislike the freeform combat system, because it makes melee look VERY idiotic... At least in KOTOR for example you could just watch as 2 evenly matched opponents fight it out with vibroblades or lightsabers.
And besides queing up the attacks instead of having instant happening attacks is bit more better. One can always go without using too many special abilities to keep his stance stable for defense.
Force abilities would work fine too in this system, sure not instant call but Cone or AOE based force push would nicely clean up the crowd a bit.
Besides that combat method might have worked somewhat in MMO. Like in NWN for example, although that game isn't an MMO but occasionally has some of the larger scale fights...

I wonder who this "story for every class" thing will work out.
Will it be something like players getting into teams and traveling on-board heir star ships and helping each other in quests?
Or will players go on travels with an NPC team, with special areas where players will co-operate with each other?
In other news, the class system looks pretty neat. I particularly like their approach to Sith classes. Inquisitors look like my kind of fun.

Gameplay trailer
Well, this vid shows a lot about gameplay. And the multiplayer cut scenes - apparently, at various points, different party members answer questions i.e first the Sith Warrior speaks, then in next conversation choice moment the bounty hunter speaks instead.
The vid is long, but it sure does answer at least some questions regarding the dialogue, voice-overs and game play.

People might know this, but I didn't and I find it to be another assurance that this will be an epic game; the studio creative director and lead designer of SWTOR (James Ohlen) was also the lead designer of Baldur's Gate, the first Kotor game and Dragon Age. Man, if that isn't creds I dunno What is, he's like the God of RPG gaming. In fact, all of the guys working on this MMO are the ones that made some of the best RPG games of all time. Well, maybe no surprise since all of those games are Bioware. Just found it reassuring to hear it spelled out to me.

I haven't been keeping track, but is there any word on whether you have manual aim with some of the skills or not? I hate it when the game aims for me.

Well, it's not a Shooter, so you will most likely Not get to aim by yourself. Maybe in Space Combat, but not with your character, it will probably use the same dice-rolling system of hits and misses as most RPG's.

I guess I'll pass this up and put my eye back on Global Agenda then.

Space combat looks...okay. Kinda like shoot'em up horizontally. It also appeared rather chaotic, but it is an MMORPG, and battles there tend to be like that...
I do wonder about combat playing out for you...I mean, they developed the combat system, so wouldn't it be a kind of waste if they made shooting "automatic" being managed by stats and equipment you have?
Unless it would be "you take cover, select the shooting skill, aim it and watch the fireworks".
I do think that they will implement "manual" system of sorts, but you never know...
Tsk, tsk, Isn't it time for a small leak, beta-testers?

Man...after watching the GW2 tutorial and then this...hype for this game just went way down :(

I actually like how the Space combat is made, is something new, and it's fast-spaced air combat. Even though it is restricted to specific routes and missions, I feel that it might actually be more entertaining than a too open space would be.
Guild Wars 1 sucks bawls and stinks like my feet. GW2... It looks pretty damn good. Gonna keep an eye on it. But the size of it isn't even half, no, not even a tenth of that of Swtor. Not enough to make me leave Star Wars, lol.
