Umm...then what about all the AR-15s currently made by DPMS, Bushmaster, Colt, ect? And all the nice, tasty semiauto AKs? The assault weapons ban expired a couple years ago.
And the AA-12 is the shit. Though I do agree with its 'destructive device' status. AKs and ARs can be taken hunting. An automatic shotgun...I'd prefer playing with those fin-stabilized HEAT shells (yeah, those are more illegal than the AA-12 itself!) IMO the coolest shotgun is the Benelli M4 Super-90, or the Remington 870 w/collapsible stock. (the latter running on cool factor)

Well yeah, assuming semi-autos. IDK if the police are even allowed to shoot full-auto (see the gunfight from 'Heat' [pachino/deniro/kilmer], the cops never fire outside semi-auto mode and that gunfight has been praised for its realism) for concern of the citizens.
And as for accuracy concerns, horizontally you'll really only see [IIRC] a 5" grouping at the ranges the police will be engaging in (100yds or less) and the only major concern is accounting for that big, heavy bullet falling out of the air. (stock AK sights account for the drop).

So I've been watching alot of nutnfancy on youtube (guy who does alot of combat/survial gear/gun reviews, Lt. Col in Army) and something he said in his 'AK vs. AR' series (where he compares the semiauto AK-47 variants to the AR-15 platform) about cops sometimes outfitting themselves with tactical carbines and opting for a AK-47 over a AR-15 [in the case when the dept. tells them to buy thier own as opposed to supplying officers with AR-15s/M-16s]. Now, I can't help thinking that the public won't be too comfortable if there's a police officer using an AK-47. Personally I'd be more comfortable knowing the officer's firearm would fire under any circumstances and definitely have stopping power, as opposed to a gun that needs religious cleaning and uses a small-caliber bullet.
