Gakuen Mokushiroku: High-school of the Dead //Zombies!

I will try and answer briefly, but alot happened in a short time so bear with it. I am nearly positive this is why though. Okay, so the kids have nothing to do with it. She would have frozen at that moment no matter what. It was a realization of something that he had said shortly before on the island that froze her, and nothing else. WIll get back to that in a second. Use of kids I think is only to make her freezing not come off as such a giant "wtf?" moment, and to make it more mysterious for the reader / viewer. It also works as plot device to provoke him into asking her shortly later if that is why she froze or not, provoking the deeper conversation.

In short, the reaosn she froze is that he had asked about her ex-loves. She said she had not felt worthy of being loved because she enjoyed the violence of her attack, and thought she was a bad person because of it. Her dark side, as she puts it, ect ect. I believe the assumption is that in the fighting that follows that brief question, she is finding herself enjoying the slaughter when his question dons on her, and the reason why she never confided her love in him came to surface, reminding her of her shame at feeling such joby at combat, ect. So, in that moment, she is overwhelmed by her shame, or regret, what have you, and freezes up. I am paraphrasing on alot of this, but if yuou've watched the episosde you should get what I mean. This then leads to the final part of the episode. She starts to freeze up again, but he grabs her and is basically telling her "dont worry. I dont care if your dark or not, I dont care if you enjoy it or not, you still deserve to be loved, ect ect". Alot of that is subtext to the conversation. THAT is why in the end she goes like fucking crazy in the moment, because he has alleievated her shame over how she feels when she fights. Hope that helps.
