What?
That's it?
What kind of way is that to end season 1?
I do hope there is a season 2; in the mean time, I'll continue reading the manga :)

What sort of cheesy carebears bullshit ending was this? Overall, this series made kamfer look good, and that's saying a lot. You know what, scratch that. Kamfer was a lot better then this huge disappointment that is Hotd. They decided to do a 100% adaptation (with modified stories) and people still think it sucks? or would you like something so originally made? So, let's hear more about your opinion, so please elaborate, without trash talking first.
I'm sorry, did I strike a nerve? First off, I had to hold myself from hurling from all the ridiculous fanservice that they injected into this genre that it did not need in the first place. Almost all the episodes contained it, it was like they were trying too hard. I suspect it's because certain anime companies going bankrupt, so they rely on fanservice to say "Hey watch us, we're gonna tease you with this certain threshold that is fanservice!" and reach that small niche of viewers.
I wasn't impressed with the cliffhanger ending as well. It was most likely a desperate ploy to keep you on the edge of your seat so they could produce a second season. Now let's get something straight, I have not read the manga. And yes, I'm bashing HOTD.

woah, chill dude, I just wanted to hear your opinion not trash talking..
looking at your opinion, you're bashing it more on the "techinal" side" not story wise.
Your opinion may change if you ever decide to read the manga.
about the fanservice -> It's the same, the Author also makes some H-doujins under the circle name "Digital Accel Works". They're not adding fanservice, it's been there since the first manga chapter. So, it's not some sort of "company bankruptcy" ploy to attract more fanbase.
cliffhanger end -> You can't force a series that doesn't have a continuation. The manga series needs another volume to be able to get a proper 13 episode. HOTD is a REALLY SLOW PACED manga. right now it's nearing 27-30 ish chapters. They're not deliberately making this just to make a 2nd season, they're also testing the waters.
If they did force more for a 24 episodes, then they would run-out of chapters faster than any other manga adaptation. So in the end, do you want an actual believable cliffhanger, or they cut it short and just add a B.O.W. and final boss at the 13 episode as an end? or do you want this anime to be filled with FILLERS?

Kaimax is completely right. They didn't add any fanservice at all - everything was in the manga. Thats the artist's style, he likes to draw girls in sexually provocative poses and draw ecchi scenes. Every panty flash was in the manga, as well as every boob bounce.
There wasn't any other way to end the series besides the way they did. The manga is still going on so if they went any farther they would have to end the series in a really awkward place. They stopped at the mall because thats where the still is manga.
If you didn't like the core material, thats one thing. But the two things you mentioned wasn't the fault of the animators - they reproduced the manga far more faithfully than many other manga get reproduced.
Also, your not bothering Kaimax's or anyone else by saying you don't like an anime. He was just wondering what you didn't like as you only said it sucked without any explaination why you thought so.

Satisfied with the ending. Its not something I would watch a second time around but it was well worth the time I spent on it.

I personally thought they did a excellent job adapting the story to an anime version, but I do have to admit it does lack the feeling that it had when it was just the manga. I can't describe what it is but the manga just had the feeling I was reading a real zombie horror apocalypse story, but the anime somehow seems to lack that feeling even though it is pretty much copying the manga completely. I can't explain it but it just feels that way. Does anybody else experience this?

a rep for kaimax, he said it very VERY well.
Can't believe it ended with 12 ep, i was actually expecting it would be 13 ep or i just actually lose my count with its ova with the next manga release i heard of. Argh i dunno. There must be a second seaon! with the appearance of higher officer and the mall, woah kinda teasing its fans.
i kinda feel it. When i first read the manga i had the suspense feeling seeing zombies eating fresh flesh with chaotic faces of students but then the anime came out i got none. I see the hodt anime as a moving hodt manga, hence... animation.

Spoiler:
I'd say that vs the manga's version, HotD anime just has the fanservice more exposed and abused. The part where Saeko's boobs does a matrix on that bullet isn't existent in the manga. And I wouldn't say that HotD is nothing but fanservice because that's not really a thorough conclusion. The manga has less of that nonsense as far as I can remember.
As for the cliffhanger, like Kai said, where the hell do you want this to go? The manga isn't even done, plus its still like only about 30 chapters altogether. HotD anime covers only chapters 15-20 about. There just simply isn't enough source material if they were to stay true to the manga to create more episodes.
HotD ending at this certain point is the best way to go without jeopardizing the show. As it's been stated, they just finished the mall arc and that translated into episodes would be what? Maybe 3 eps? After that, the show has caught up with the manga. So a season 2 would be a much better decision should they stay true to the manga. But then again with these types of animes with long running chapters that's still going, what the hell do you expect? These types of shows are [size=15]always[/h] about 12-13 episodes. And again with this show's case, it's impossible to go on for a full 24-26 eps.
As for my thoughts on the series, it was alright for me. It could have been better had the fanservice wasn't so ridiculous (i.e. boob matrix). But I enjoyed the show. It could have been better but seeing as how the manga has hardly moved on and this being only 12 eps, I didn't expect much. None the less, it did alright.

The anime at first had me at the edge of my seat. I am fucking serious when the eps started showing at up until episode 4 (depending on what version you were watching they would probably censor out the boob grabbing/molestation part. Part of the reason for reading the manga is to get away from the annoying censors) I immediately couldn't contain myself and started to read the manga because I couldn't wait for the next ep. When the bath scene hit in 6 I was somewhat disappointed that they censored that. It was not enough to start disliking the anime it was just fanservice after all. Then there was the fanservice matrix scene which I thought then that they were trying too hard to be "cool". Then came the DREADED EPISODE 9.
That episode was filler which turned 4-6 pages to 22 minutes of a good majority of awkward silence. I like how they expanded on Komuro and Saeko's relationship but they had no mention of it in the next episode. Don't say it was a oneshot either >_>. Hell there isn't even tension between Rei and Saeko over him. The anime started of stellar and ended with... meh.

Can it be said that they took this horror series and made it into a generic anime? Is that what should it be described as? Generic anime physics and what not.

Generic anime physics and what not.Eh, I disagree because the manga isn't even that scary. There are no moments that scare you or are even very morbid when compared to any other horror genre manga. The worst thing is when someone gets bitten it is a bit gory, and if someone important dies it is more sad than it is scary.
It might be scary if maybe there are running and hiding from the zombies, but since they are always killing loads of them I think it was always more of an action manga then a horror one.

I never said the manga was scary. What manga version was able to do imo was able to tell a realistic zombie apocolypse horror story but just in an artstyle. Even though the anime version copied the manga it loses the feel of its realism and for the most part it just feels like I'm watching another anime instead of watching it as a zombie survival film. I'm sure most people won't notice the difference and as I said it is just how I feel when I'm watching it compared to when I read it.

I suppose I understand, but again even in the manga I never thought they were in a hopeless apocalyptic setting as there was still functioning communities scattered about. Not to say things weren't all fubar, but they weren't completely hopeless.
I would actually attribute the difference partially to the music in the anime. When something light hearted happens in the manga, it is one or two panels long. When it happens in the anime, you hear this pleasant music that lightens the mood. The comical times stand out more because they are animated, where the manga they only catch your eye for as long as it takes you to notice the zombie in the next panel.

There's definitely going to be a second season. I refuse to believe otherwise after watching the last episode where the camera pans the mall and the short screentime of that policewoman.
The mechanic was epicly cool, and so were Saya's parents.
I also thought using T.S. Eliot's quote at the end was very fitting towards the zombie apocalypse.
Apparently the ED album by Maon Kurosaki is out: http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=download&tid=160424

I suppose it's a given that there will be a 2nd season, how can there not be? The manga has more chapters that they haven't shown yet.
Never liked Saya, but goddamn, Saya's mom is hot stuff. Even hotter than Saeko.

The anime was pretty good but had many weaknesses which will take a wall of text to explain plus Harmonian mentioned most of them, like the zombie crawling towards Rei on the first episode and all that.
This anime contained excess fan service as Mr. Bushido said although I didn't really hate all that, its actually hard for me to believe that I didn't hate Seako's bullet time boob fan service, what pissed me off was how he leaned on Rei's boobs and and started shooting instead of taking the rifle off her. And the slap on the first episode made me lol, I mean, he didn't even let her bitch at him properly and slapped just like that.
And well that's all that I can say for this anime everything else are probably mentioned anyway and the ending could have been much more better, this cliffhanger sucked than all the others that I've seen in all the animes that I've watched.

So, I assume you haven't read the manga, right?
Try reading and tell me, Where/what do you think is more appropriate to be called a "real" cliffhanger for this anime?
