As popular as anime culture has become in recent years, it is still true that, for the most part, there isn't a lot of money in anime. Sales don't reach anywhere near the sales of the average box office movie or average television show. As a result, when anime is brought over they don't usually have the funds to cast awesome voice actors, some find decent ones, but even the decent ones aren't paid much. I do love some anime voice actors though, for example i like to watch almost any anime with Steve Blum in it (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Scryed, Big O, even Great Teacher Onizuka, which was the first role i ever heard him in) and mostly when he's a main character like the listed. There are a few others, like i'll always enjoy DBZ in english cause it's how i grew up watching it and i actually like the personality gokus voice acter gives him. But in the end it comes down subbed being the choice for me, and everyone else who realizes there's alot more emotion and talent put into anime in japan simply because that's where it was created and these are the voices and lines the characters were animated for..... The following beeps thing can make some translations very awkward as well.

For me, Sub is good if you cant find the anime ur lookin for dubbed. But dubbed is good because you dont have to read the subtitles through the whole anime. Also some animes are funnier(School Rumble for instance) if you can hear the joke instead of reading it. ALSO, reading the subs take away my attention from whats going on in the anime because im taking up most of the time reading.

In my opinion, the only anime that were decent when dubbed were: FLCL, Inuyasha, Code Geass and Samurai Champloo. Again, in my opinion, the dubs for Higurashi, SnS, and Darker than Black were horrible >.>. I still can't get over how they destroyed Rika's "nipah" moments....but other than those listed above, I'm on the subbed side all the way.

I really dislike subbed, as I generally dislike Japanese voice acting. And add on to that, reading subs is a horrible distraction from the anime itself. With a few exceptions, if I had to choose between subs and not watching, I would pick not watching.

Just to let you all know I voted for dubbed. Having to read subtitles while watching anime you lose some of the visuals that this art form is all about. Don't get me wrong though, I like to hear the Japanese voice actors because they are closer to portraying the character then some of the dubbed voices. I believe to get the full effect of the show you got to watch both subbed and dubbed or get fluent in Japanese.

There has only been one anime where I actually PREFERRED dubs, and that was Trigun.
For all other anime I have always preferred subs, and for most I can't stand dubs.

eh subbed anime can sometimes take away from the overall experience of the actual show. meanwhile dubbed anime can have horrible voice actors so its kinda of a double edged sword picking between the two. but i personally prefer the dubbed.

mostly dubbing an anime ruins the quality of the voice of the characters and sometimes even ruins the story because of the loss of meaning of the lines... though it's much easier to watch. I still prefer subbed...

Subbed anime is mainly better in my appeal. Dubbed anime sometimes just sounds not all that great, and the good parts from the original Japanese Dub are either taken out or completely ruined by voice actors. Only a few dubs that I have watched were okay such Bleach, Code Geass, and Haruhi to name a few. Others that I have watched were not all that good. They were okay but at some point, they just didn't feel right at all. Subbed anime is the way I go.

Why dont you have 'or both' as another option. i am probably one of the few that enjoy both sub and dub anime. i really dont care how bad or horrible the Japanese or English dubs are as long as get to enjoy the story and fall in love with the characters its all good.
my favorate English dub has to be Code Geass
my favorate Japanese sub is Lucky Star

the greatest dub ive ever heard is yu-gi-oh the abriged series.
if that counts as an anime anyway. other than that, i'll stick to the subs

Subbed. I did enjoy the dubbed versions for Macross Plus and Desert Punk WAY more than subbed versions though.
