Atheism

I am an atheist one because I find the whole thought of a creator to be stupid and idiotic. I used to go to church one because they had doughnuts all the time and they also had some damn good coffee. For a while I started to believe in the crap that was being spewed, but when I found God isn't for equal rights and never answers prayers I basically felt fuck this shit. The bible says "If a Man is Gay or a Women is Lesbian they will be cast into Hell." I have a gay and lesbian cousin so are they gonna go to hell? Why would I wanna promote that. The Bible also says "If a man takes his own life he will go to hell" my Uncle committed suicide in 2005 is he in hell now? Also would any of you be willing to sell your daughter into sex slavery?
(Exodus 21:7-11)
If you do believe in a God good for you.

I do believe in A god.
Also, the "word of god" always has to be interpreted, this is why we have priest and other holy people studying their respective holy books for many years. If you could just take the stories and apply them directly without interpretation, then we would not need any priests.
So I do also not believe in the literal words written in the bible

Long, well my thoughts about this is first off there isnt just the Christian God, some people dont even belong in any religion but still to them they believe in the existence of a god-like being.
As for scriptures, to me, these are words written by humans. Even if it is TRUE that they were messages from a god, what you are reading on the bible for example are how people from days long ago translated, comprehended or understood these messages. If youd show em a helicopter I think theyd think its an angel. And also, not everything that is said on the bible is meant to be treated like a law or... there are stories, songs, dialogue and just how things were thousands of years ago, theyre not all applicable now.
I used to be a sincere believer when I was young. I was even in the choir group and sang on church masses and almost got accepted to work on the altar... well, the start of my fall from grace is nothing special, it just started when I lost someone dear to me. But Im glad I was capable of actually asking the questions and facing the fear of facing gods wrath for questioning his existence. Now, well I already mentioned what I believe on the other thread.

I dont believe in god. Not because i disagree with any of what he says, (I havent even finished the bible.) but because the theory of creation is bullshit.
Ive posted this whole thing on the "god" thread and i dont really feel like repeating myself.

Hey Longevity, glad to see there are other atheists on this site besides myself. Welcome to the club I guess :P. Did you recently become an atheist, or has it been some time now?Oh yeah, congratz, it's not like 90% of the people here claim that they are atheists =)
Anyway, I prefer to call myself agnostic, since I don't find it worthwhile to take an absolute stand towards things that have no definitive fact.

You are either Atheist or theist.
Agnostic is not a belief but a knowledge based statement which can be assed to the ends of a belief.
I am an atheist agnostic.
Saying you are just agnostic does not answer the question.

I took a closer look at what it was about and it seems to be about better treatment for slaves. A possible reason I thought of why did it not say slavery is forbiding is because every one wouldn't go for it so instead it was easier to hinder it like the slavery of black people they couldn't get rid of it so they made a law about shipping across the sea and it hindered it (or some thing like that).

I personally don't like the idea of being born into a
religion or blindly following a religion my whole life.
if god or a god proves and gives me a legit reason to
believe in them and proof that they existed then maybe
ill believe but as long as the only proof is a fairy tale
book that contradicts itself then fuck religion.

What are the contradictions?

I don't see any one listing a list of things atheist have did wrong.
Btw I couldn't care wether there was a god or not what I don't get is why the hell do athiest keep going on about it.

If their was a God I'd think it's the Sun. It gives man warmth and also keeps us alive, it helps our plants grow bigger so we won't go completely hungry. I am not saying I think it is but I am trying to say is that the Sun has done more for this planet then any religion ever has. Has their ever been wars that killed hundreds of thousands of people if not millions over the Sun? No their hasn't.

religion is controled by man, when religion goes wrong it's man that should be blamed not god.
and god doesn't do any thing because it effects free will or some thing like that.

If man hadn't created Religion then their would be no God.

If god did exist I think its possible or fair to say that god made man and man started a religion to follow god.
If god did not, then man invented a god then started a religion to follow this man-made god.
I think its also possible that god exists, and god didnt actually create man and man created a false god and all this time man has been following this man made god and not the real one.
Guess we'll never really now atleast I guess not anytime soon which is which. It just crossed my mind that we could all be wrong, that the truth actually eluded us all.

Man created God because they wanted a reason to be able to do things and get away with it. God isn't anything but a scapegoat for idiotic people.
