I know the point where you're getting at but did you read the article? Communists were atheists who thought religion was trash and heavily reinforced it to make their point crystal clear. On the other hand, religion had many priests and bishops who told people to fight their wars "in the name of god" with alternative reasons. You can say both were just merely corrupt with no relation to their respective belief system but they shed blood for it, used it as a reason to kill someone.

Also, you're right, agonostic is not a belief but people feel they shouldn't involve themselves any further than "not believing" while atheists believe in Darwinism or other forms of explanations explained by science.

Also, atheism is not connected to evolution, it's just that atheists have only logic and evidence to come to a conclusion about the world, so it follows naturally that atheists would accept scientific claims. That kind of view implies that there aren't any theists that believe in evolution, which is wrong. Not only that, but your statement also implies that atheists are the only ones who base their views on science (agnostics like science too). As mentioned before atheism is a lack of belief in deities, so anything outside of that is NOT atheism.

Mibuchiha, you don't quite understand agnosticism. They do not lack in belief or deny it. Divine powers (as humans call it) may exist but people just can't surely percept it with their limited senses. So that's why agnostics just accept their ignorance and move on with their lives without thinking 'bout these matters.

If all you have to do is "hedge your bet" and proclaim your faith in the christian god, does that not undermine everything religion stands for (save, of course, proselytism - here we see organized religion's true intent. Forgot how pious you are, you only need to lie. Ridiculous.) Are we equating gambling with faith - or belief with the fear of hell? Is that what this god wants?

Christianity cannot be taken seriously enough to even consider the validity of such claims. Think of how many gods there are clamoring for obedience. Why this one when there are thousands and thousands of deities? That's like a 1/10,000 chance for you religious folk. It's not worth it (and that "bet" doesn't take into account how silly the idea of a supernatural being is in the first place!)

Yeah, but a) life is short compared to a potential eternity b) why would your life be wsated? For the most part, following the tenets the judeo christian god involves loving your fellow man and generally not acting like a dick. Sure you don't relifion for that, but not being a douche because you believe in God isn't inherently a waste of time.

@pizzabyte: I already did. One of the valid criticisms of Pascal Wager is that it doesn't exactly promote faith. But then I wasn't promoting faith. I was responding to the question "what's the point of believing in God?" Logically, if God (whatever god; but for the most part we aren't talking about Zeus here, but the jedo christian Yahwaeh/Jehovah/Crhist/Allah God) does esxist, I'd pretty much imagine he won't be pleased if you spent your life not believing. If you don't believe, then, quite simply, you are acting in accordance to your own will. "Do as thou wilt" is the first commandment of the Church of Satan. No, aetheists are not satanists, but rather those who do not believe are automatically not acting in accordance to what God wills. So, you are, essentially, fucked if he does exiat.

I'd seriously consider your protestation (which I don't, hence the one liner reply) if you can genuinely claim that if God exists, he's absolutely fine with people not beleiving in him.
