Atheism

Can someone tell me the site where I can find those black background + picture definition photos???
Anyway, back on topic, I'm not a very religious person though I do tend to believe that God, or an omniscient unknown being is behind it all mainly for 2 reasons:
1) We, as humans, are emotional beings and tend to favor illogical explanations in order to comfort and distress ourselves in certain situations.
2) We don't yet have the knowledge, technology or comprehension to know exactly everything there is to know about the Universe and beyond.
Furthermore, science doesn't usually contradict religion. Christianity tell us about the Genesis, that God created the Universe (more specifically Earth) in 7 days. Now, as we know, the Bible is very symbolistic, so these days are not to be taken as normal 24-hour days... 1 day of the Genesis could have been more than milions of years, and science tell us that Earth is many millions of years old. So at least regarding the subject of how we came to be, science and religion don't argue.
About everyday life, there are some things that the Bible teaches us that I am in contradiction with. For example, it teaches us we should be good to everyone around us... this is, in my opinion, a very good thing, seeing how the world today lacks goodness and honesty. BUT, it also says that to be able to enter Heaven, you must be good and have unquestioned faith in God and that without the latter, you can't enter Paradise, no matter how good and true you are... which is bullshit. That seems unfair to the people who are either atheists or simply haven't been grown into a religion, and sometimes there are alot of atheists or less religious people that are alot better, helping and honest than many would-be christians who go to church every sunday and then resume backstabbing after preaching is done.
Secondly, the Bible says that oral and anal sex is wrong, as well as group sex. Now, I agree with the fact that no1 should live just for sex and carnal pleasure, but what's wrong with eating your girlfriends pussy or giving your boyfriend a blowjob(in case you're a girl)?... if it's something done in privacy, and just a manifestation of love between the two, why should I go to hell for that?... it's just another way of pleasuring your loved one and showing your appreciation for her/him.
Anyway, those are just 2 of the things I find exaggerated about religion.
So, I'd have to say that I tend to believe that there is a God who is understanding and forgiving and that He understands and helps us in ways we cannot see and comprehend, even though I can't be 100% sure, unfortunately.

Well im an atheist myself.. I did go to church when i was a kid bcause my mom forced me.. As i was growing up, i realised that all of this doesnt make any sense.. The church told us that god created us and stuff. Honestly, they dont even have proof for it. Even if God do exist, i think he is useless bcause lots of people are suffering right now.. Oh, they say that if we dont believe in Jesus, we will go to hell.. I find that ridiculous.

I'm agnostic so I don't bother with that kind of stuff; however I think both sides of an argument can come to agree to things: http://www.cracked.com/article_15663_10-things-christians-atheists-can-and-must-agree-on.html
Interesting article.

For starters how do you define "atheist"? Possibly someone who denies the existence of god? But, then which god? There are so many to actually target. Is it possibly the existence of any god? Better yet the existence of a direct ruling? Such as religion itself? But, then again that brings up which and why? Saying you don't believe in religion is also saying atheism isn't real so that brings in another problem... This might just be a shot in the dark but, my whole personal opinion on the subject of being atheist is more based on the religion you grew up into or more popular religions of your own knowing and more based on if you believe in those laws. i would love to discuss a topic on "religious views or not, and or existence in general" i have a pretty broad view on that topic alone? But with this topic it to choppy to give a CLEAR OPINION

I do, however, see your point about regarding atheism as a system of belief. It's a bit like calling not-collecting stamps a hobby.

Well I disagree with some of the things said in that article.
Atheism doesn't make good people commit atrocities while religion does.
Also for those saying they are agnostic........agnosticism is not a belief...it is a knowledge based statement. You either believe in god or you don't simple as that.
Not convinced = Atheist.

I'm agnostic.
I DON'T KNOW.
What's the harm in saying that? Just saying 'I don't know' what happens when we die?
The bible, Kaballa (sp?), The koran, all written by men I promise you. Men who's brain is no bigger or better than yours or mine.
I'm against organized religion because it's all about control. It all started with a group of people saying 'how can we get the masses to listen to us and obey us?' BAM religion comes about. "do this, do that, don't do this or else you'll burn forever in a horrible afterlife'
I mean think about any religion (well at the least the major ones). You're not allowed to question it at all. The answer is just 'oh accept god's divine plan and shut up about it.'
At the end of the day I figure if there is A god they don't CARE about what specific stupid book we've followed (if any) I figure live a good life (best you can anyways) and try to leave this world a slightly better place than it was when you came into it.

I see what you mean, since for the longest time I've been trying to figure this agnosticism shit out. Every time I hear someone refer to themselves as agnostic, that still leaves the question in my mind, "Do you believe in god?" It's as if they equate that with the question "Does god exist?" As with many other things, I'll probably never understand this shit.
