I'd seriously consider your protestation (which I don't, hence the one liner reply) if you can genuinely claim that if God exists, he's absolutely fine with people not beleiving in him.
I assume it refers to me.
Its because of this kind of attitude that imposes their believes upon others that makes me sick even more against religious groups. Religion and atheism is a choice to profess a particular believe and faith. It was never supposed to be like,"Believe me or I'll send 1000 of my faithful against you." Conflicts happen because every groups wants to persuade the other they are right and if you don't, they start killing. This seems apparent in modern day scenario although we thought it happened thousands of year ago. Crappy still when religious groups start going against each other although they are the same banner.
For example:
1. Catholics vs.Protestants
2. Sunni vs. Shiites
3. Muslims vs. Christians vs. Jews (each one goes against one another indirectly)
Example: Zionist threatens to make a tunnel that could lead to the collapse of the Dome of Rock in Jerusalem, Muslims sound the call to prayer from the Holy Sepulcher Church in Jerusalem, the branding of Islam as terrorist and the list goes on.
This three religions are good examples of preaching goodwill, kindness, love thy neighbour and blah blah blah blah. In fact, this religions are from the same origin and look how fucked up that has made us today (not to mention the alternative groups within their own ranks).
On a side note, I'm more towards an agnostic not really on atheism since they are some things cannot be explained by logic.
This would probably be my last post for this topic, I rather not be a troll Y.Y in my no.1 favorite fap site.
Cheers!

Yeah, but a) life is short compared to a potential eternity b) why would your life be wsated? For the most part, following the tenets the judeo christian god involves loving your fellow man and generally not acting like a dick. Sure you don't relifion for that, but not being a douche because you believe in God isn't inherently a waste of time.@pizzabyte: I already did. One of the valid criticisms of Pascal Wager is that it doesn't exactly promote faith. But then I wasn't promoting faith. I was responding to the question "what's the point of believing in God?" Logically, if God (whatever god; but for the most part we aren't talking about Zeus here, but the jedo christian Yahwaeh/Jehovah/Crhist/Allah God) does esxist, I'd pretty much imagine he won't be pleased if you spent your life not believing. If you don't believe, then, quite simply, you are acting in accordance to your own will. "Do as thou wilt" is the first commandment of the Church of Satan. No, aetheists are not satanists, but rather those who do not believe are automatically not acting in accordance to what God wills. So, you are, essentially, fucked if he does exiat.
I'd seriously consider your protestation (which I don't, hence the one liner reply) if you can genuinely claim that if God exists, he's absolutely fine with people not beleiving in him.
And you believe that believing in God for no reason other than your fear of possible damnation is better than not believing in Him at all?
When I was young and still in The Church, I was always taught that, in His eyes, you were only truly saved if you choose to believe out of faith and love, and that believing out of fear corrupted your soul.
Not that I believe in all the rubbish these days, I'm just saying that's what I learned from The Church.

I do believe in A god. Also, the "word of god" always has to be interpreted, this is why we have priest and other holy people studying their respective holy books for many years. If you could just take the stories and apply them directly without interpretation, then we would not need any priests.
So I do also not believe in the literal words written in the bible

I have my own beliefs and thats all i need. I believe in evolution but also in a (hopeful) creater. Like when your playing a civ game and if you build your civ well enough it can thrive on its own, for awhile. Like that one episode of SG-Atlantis. -w- anyway what im saying is that i have my own beliefs -w- what i hate is that my mom is buddhist and i fansy myself a philospher and whenever i give her a nugget of my wisdom she goes "thats buddhism" i personally think shes full of herself and needs an education.

Short and sweet version, I explained my belief in the post about "God"
In laymans terms, I believe in a being that's on a higher plane of existence than us, while he may not be "God" or "Zues" or "Alah" or any of the major religious icons, I still believe there's a supernatural being up there.
Also, why can religions not get along? They all would be worshiping the same entity (In most major religions, and I mean most, not all), just in different ways, does that make them so different?
(Edit, and intended for the one who was asking why should someone believe in god out of fear.)
He might just be thinking logically, of course someone's going to have the mentality "Oh, well, let's see, if I do believe in god and he does exist I will go to heaven when I die but there will be no consequences if he does not exist. But if God does exist and I choose not to believe in him, when I get to heaven, I will be rejected, so I should accept this to save my soul as reassurance/insurance."
While that's not the "Right" way to believe in god in most peoples eyes, were I god, truthfully, I wouldn't care and I would understand completely why people would think like that, but I'm not, and who knows what he might think?

Hmmm I personally don't think there is an almighty smiter/creator up there in the sky. Like the post before me I believe there to be a higher plane of existence. That doesn't mean that they are "God" it just means their more powerful than us. Also the Life after Death issue. I think that if there is life after death more than likely its gunna be reincarnation. Feel free to reply to me or contradict me if you wish. I like new ideas and new perspectives :D

WOW. I think pascal's wager has been brought up enough times for me to convert to Kratosism. You see, when God of War 3 comes out, zeus and all his pals will be dead, so according to pascal, I should cheer for the winning team. May the almighty Kratos bless you.

I will repeat this.
God works in mysterious ways. God will send persons/people to test our faith. Persons/people like Agnostics, Atheists, etc.. will force true believers to take that leap of faith or not.
I believe what I want to believe and everyone has the will to believe what they want to believe.

SORRY! YOUR idea are rejected
there is no god if there are it means we are the god itself.
(god made human the same like him)
this phrase alone suggest that human are god and god are human.
if there are some idiot super being out there i would like to see him/her
anyway god is not important for human are the being with higher potential to surpass god.

I believe god, but somehow I still see contradiction to myself for saying this.
God is something we created out of fear of the unknown, but as you can see people tend to use this wrongly and turn the word of to a holy crusades. Those who use God as the instrument of War is either stupid or something.
I believe God is only a symbol. So I don't take so much the Word of God, even if i read the bible and go to Mass on sunday.
I control my Own life and religion doesnt affect much of life.

Our god is an awesome god, he reigns from heaven above.
Where the fuck is heaven?
Where is my 72 virgins?
I got screwed yo.

IMO: Its your belief, nothing against you. Science is continuing to advance, and sooner than later, we're gonna completely disprove all remaining "stories" of god and throw it all into fiction.

actually all this god thing is a creation of a human mind tha seeking salvation. there are no god there only a being in different realm. if i say that, god actually a being that come from other dimension and by the time it got here someone from pour world notice them. from their point of view that being is divine for the technology and knowledge from that era are still far behind from those todays.
maybe just maybe, that god that been spotted or been delivering massages to those of that era are actually a human or a being from the present that posses the technology to jump to a different time.

Whether God is real or not, we as humans cannot comprehend or fathom the reality of a omnipotent being, but many of us in the world put irrational but powerful faith in Him. However, it is beyond human nature to use pedantic dogmatism to explain how and why the world works. Science explains the "how" and there is no real "why." Though I respect anyone who has a faith, I think it's ridiculous that they don't have respect for anyone with different or no faith.
Oh and Atheism>scientology any day.

This is just a side note, but there's an atheist protest group that wants to make Mother Teresa not allowed to be put on our stamps. See...it's these types of atheists that make other people think ALL atheists are ignorant.
If you're an atheist, and you actively go out trying to remove religion from everything, you're an attention whore. plain and simple.
I mean sheesh, Mother Teresa was a great person, despite that she did all she did in the name of god, she was still awesome, she deserves a friggen stamp at least.
