Varmant Rifle becomes Obsolete if you have a Hunting Rifle. Gun Runners sells mods for all weapon tiers, so check them ocassionally.
Also, the "One Mod per Weapon" claim is bogus. I'm not sure, but I believe three is the max (unless there are only 1-2 actual available mods for a specific weapon). You can't use the same mod twice on one weapon, but you can mod the weapon more than once. I'm not sure if this is different for the 360 version, but I don't see why it would be. I play the PC version. I've had three mods on one weapon on multiple ocassions.

It's not different on the 360. I think the max is also 3 mods per weapon, but at the same time I don't think there are even any weapons with more than 3 mods.
Btw, did anyone else get that perk that knocks people on their ass when you hit 'em with a shotgun? Shit made Dead Money a helluva lot easier to go through once you pick up the caravan shotgun.

well for pc can't you download mods from net to change stuff?
I know hunting rifle is better then the varmant rifle... but I got way more ammo for Vamrmant. Sadly I don't have much .308 ammo

The Service Rifle can be obtained about 1 hour into the game via a Quest received from Ranger Jackson located at the Mojave Outpost. It uses the same caliber ammo as the Varmint Rifle, but is a much better choice of weapon when compared to the Varmint Rifle.
I suggest using this site if you're confused about something in game, or you need help with an issue.

I would be careful though. The wiki is very detailed, so you can spoil a lot of secrets if you snoop around too much.

Theres a few game mods that alter the weapon add-ons yeah. heres two popular examples. i don't believe they're compatible with one another. I kind of find it hard to use any weapon once you pick up a sniper rifle, since it's so blatantly overpowered in NV. If you're running Project Nevada then sniping is <3

This is a WIP Mod, but i's very interesting. It's just an empty Vault at the moment, until the designer adds a story and quests. For now, it's just an large, empty Navmeshed Vault.

Lol after two days of playing I restarted xD
Reason? I tend to do that with rpg's... If I feel that I messed up somehow I restart.
I was able to get the sniper companion before I restarted...
Why can't I find scope for hunting rifle? How do you get the anti-material rifle?

Finding mods is almost entirely based off of chance. That's what I'm convinced of, anyway. I've gone almost all the way to the end of the game before I found the silencer for the Varmint Rifle, and by that time I had already reached level 25 and was packing a 12.7 SMG and an Anti-Everything rifle. You can only get the AM Rifle once you reach a certain level, but I can't remember if it's once you reach level 15 or 20. Either way, once you get a high enough level, you'll start to see NPCs carrying them around and you'll soon see a few stores selling them.

Finally got a scope and the bolt mod for the hunter rifle... Had to spend like 4k for it =/
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok spoiler here =/
I made a mistake and went and got a bad rep with legion before going to the fort... and I ended up having to kill ceasar or I wouldn't be able to finish the quest =/
I would have gotten over that but then I ended up giving the chip to mr house...
is there anyway to neutralize house without killing him?

after that I was so mad I went long distance anti-material rifle deathclaw sniping/hunting... ended up wiping out all of the deathclaw (maybe missed one or two)
damn is it hard to get head shots from long distances...especially when your almost at the same height...
which brings a question to my mind...
I know weapons have a strength requirement... but I was wounder... if you increase strength past the requirement does it increase accuracy even more?

Spoiler:
I think having increased strength raises your guns skill level, therefore making you more accurate and efficient with most weapons. Nevermind. Read next post.

I seeand @2nd part
but does it become more accurate when strength is higher?
Hold on, just looked it up. AGILITY increases your Guns skill, which in turn raises your accuracy, reduces sway, and increases damage.

DAMMIT =/
my agility isn't high... all my stats is 6 and I the perk to increase 1 stat went to intelligence... and I bought an implant for strength...
why do they require you to have high skill points in order to do stuff if you can't fight at with the things you want.. (mine would be energy and guns) and get all the other perks you want
