When it comes to work like this, yeah, the art is there, however, if it isn't digital that means someone must have uploaded it and scanned. Unless you have a good scanner you need to edit the pages to make them look better, levels, curves, blur, etc, then cleaning the text off because you are translating it, now typsetting, AND even more grey area if you had a person doing redraws which means what was there, art, that you didn't edit, is now changed and not original. All this put together makes is an EXTREMELY grey area even for USA laws for copyright and it is primarily why most sites can get away with not doing anything about it.

What you're describing is in no way protected under derivative art/fair use. The ONLY gray area is in the translations themselves, which is still practiced in some fan circles via distribution of txt files. Redraws, levels, even "de-censoring" do not change the original art work anywhere near enough to reach the "percentage" quota you're talking about. The derivative work becomes a second, separate work independent in form from the first. The transformation, modification or adaptation of the work must be substantial and bear its author's personality to be original and thus protected by copyright. To do this for manga you'd have to do something uniquely original, like make your own story to the artwork, and alter the artwork to make a completely different message/story from the original. There's arguments over stuff like collages in the art world made from cut up magazines. Collages, for example, create a WHOLE NEW PRODUCT. Scanlations are just translating the text to English, retaining the art and message of the original creator.

Only copyright owners have the exclusive right to produce derivative works based on their original, copyrighted works. Copyright on original works of authorship is automatic, and registration—while it does carry significant benefits, like the right to sue for infringement—is not required for a work to be protected; protection attaches immediately when the work is completed. However, a copyright owner can grant permission to someone else to make a derivative work based on his or her original—if permission is granted (in the form of a license or assignment), then creation of the derivative work is not infringement. But if the original isn't yours and you don't get permission to use the original from its creator, then you're infringing that author's copyright.

Scanlators have NO RIGHTS TO THE WORK THEY'RE RELEASING. Scanlators for the most part realize this. Yes, effort and hard work goes into it, but they still have no permission whatsoever to do what they're doing. There is no gray area. It's not legal or protected by any US laws.

Scanlator websites get away with it mostly because previously they were thought as harmless, and the language barrier made it more difficult to send out DMCAs. However a lot has changed in the last 15 years, and scanlators are a lot more visible to the people who hold those rights.'

Doxy's work is protected under US parody laws.

I've seen more than enough "intersectional" feminist not act in accordance to those sentiments.

Of all the people with "Male tears", "white tears", "kill white cis men" tee-shirts, mugs, etc. are all intersectional feminist.

That's called Misandry, not Feminism.

I say it's pretty normal. I have a friend I grew up with who is asexual. She just doesn't find anyone attractive. That doesn't mean she doesn't love a good sex scene or drawing perv art, she just doesn't connect wanting to have sex with the people she sees around her.

That said do not associate sexual attraction with love. They are not the same thing. A lot of "love at first sight" situations are rooted in lust and for asexual people this may never happen. It doesn't mean either that you'll never want to have sex with the person you do end up falling in love with, just that it will be very low on your list of things you want to do with them.

Don't treat her like a unicorn, or expect her to fit you ideal geek girl fantasy. Treat her like a dude, a dude who just happens to have a vagina.

Dating can be rough, and even more so getting to the point where you ask her out. And don't worry if you don't like everything she likes and vice versa. If you're looking for a mirror image of yourself that will be near impossible to find, and if they were it'd just be kinda boring.

Anyway as a anime nerd girl myself who has been apoached by a lot of guys in awe with my interests, I personally wish a lot of them would have gotten advice like this:

Doctor Nerd Love on dating Geek Girls

He's got a great column that helps introvert geeks get through the awkwardness of when they first deal with the opposite sex.

Now, if only Fakku would stop extracting chapters from subscriptions because they know it'll be compiled into a book they could sell later...

... Huh? When have we done this?
Romana FAKKU Letterer
There are already plans to expand the subscriber content, and we are possibly working on a way to include "samples" of the books for subscribers. You must understand though that the books are another product, bought for different distribution means. The chapters for these books however originate in the Wani magazines we're releasing, so this means you are automatically receiving previews of future books we may release.

So you can sort of compare it to tv shows, and dvd season boxsets of said shows. An author (for example Guujira) will first release a chapter in Comic X-Eros. Then a couple months later, he'll release another chapter. And another. After a year to two years, the publisher takes all these chapters by Gujira and puts them puts them into a book. Then we license the book if we're interested in publishing it, and you get the option to buy it. As we continue on with the subscriber service, it may get to the point that a whole book has already been published digitally through the magazines. However, for those who really like the author, the books usually have touched up chapters/art, art bonuses, and the pleasure of actually owning the physical book. Gujira's book features one chapter we already have in our subscriber service. Another example of something similar will be the upcoming Napata book.

We began publishing books a good year before we began the subscriber service, and we set out to publish at least one book every month. When the digital version of the book is released, you get a chapter a day until the whole book is released.

Resources are not being pulled from the subscriber service to release books. There are two separate teams, dedicated to working full time to get their projects out. If we were to stop producing the books, the amount of subscriber content would still be just the same. However if it upsets you to see the digital book content on the front page, you have the option of just clicking on the "Magazine" tab to see subscriber only content.

We are planning on expanding the subscriber content, but until then you can maybe try out what other users are doing to justify Fakku spending: sub one month, buy a book the next, sub again, etc. You'll always have access to the full subscriber library every time you sub, so if you wait a month and sub the following, that'll be a good 600+ pages of more content for you to enjoy.

We use mostly the Wacom Intuos here in the office, but the Bamboo is a great affordable tablet.

Same here, I wouldn´t fap to Van Gogh´s Starry Night, so I don´t fap to hentai either

Damn, I fap to Van Gogh works all the time.

Van Gogh? Really?
I mean, I can understand Bosch, the whole demon, punishment and insanity topic of his works is really a great turn on and instant boner for me and because of that I can't visit museums with his works, but VAN GOGH?
Damn, tastes really differ very much...

I can't help it. I have a degree in Art history. Those brush strokes just do something to me.

I don't wank off to it, but maybe it's because I'm female? It can get me in the mood, but nah, I read it for pure entertainment and appreciation of art.

Since I thought it shares a relation, I would like to say that my subscription suddenly got cancelled. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with me moving and getting a new billing address, but could their be another reason? Should I just re-subscribe?

It could be the billing info, such as your zip code with your credit card, canceled the subscription. I'd attempt to resubscribe with the new zipcode, and if that doesn't work you would probably have to call the bank/credit card to find out why.

Subscriber here. I have this issue going that the site only lets me navigate between pages 1->10. If I want to go back further I have to input the page number on my address bar.

Please post this here so Daiz can directly address and possibly fix the problem you're having.

though I do wish they full-colored the main cover rather than just the jacket

We make our manga as close to the Japanese release as possible. Our covers under the jackets of our releases, if compared to the Japanese, are to my knowledge exactly the same. If they were full color in Japanese, FAKKU's be in full color.
